Batman (real name Bruce Wayne) is a crime-fighter from Gotham City as well as a founding member of the Justice League. When Nightwing was still Robin, Batman was his mentor; since then, he has gone on to mentor several other protégés: a second Robin, a third Robin, Batgirl, Spoiler, and Orphan.

Bruce Wayne became Batman in 1999. Following the murder of his parents on April 1st, 2006,, Dick Grayson was taken in by Bruce and became his protégé, Robin. In 2013, Dick took on the name Nightwing, and Jason Todd became the new Robin. Jason was killed later the same year. Also in 2013, Barbara Gordon became Batgirl.

Bruce is the son of Thomas and Martha Wayne. As a young child his parents were murdered by Joe Chill. Bruce became the Batman at the age of twenty-one and went on to fight crime as the caped crusader in the streets of Gotham.
