The mother of three kids who were found abandoned living in a filthy, garbage-filled home in Michigan has been charged with child abuse, authorities have confirmed.

A Michigan mother is facing charges of child abuse after her three abandoned children were found living alone in extreme squalor for years. "All of us are asking, 'How the heck did this happen? ... How did no one know?

"Obviously, the trauma here is significant," Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said in announcing the charges Wednesday.
