The mother of three kids who were found abandoned living in a filthy, garbage-filled home in Michigan has been charged with child abuse, authorities have confirmed.

The neglected children had been living without an adult for at least four years when they were discovered by police.

"Obviously, the trauma here is significant," Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said in announcing the charges Wednesday.
