A Camden police officer was stabbed in the neck Sunday evening in an unprovoked attack at Broadway and Chestnut streets while talking to another person, a police spokesperson said.

A Camden police officer is in critical condition after he was stabbed on Sunday night, officials said. A suspect was arrested and taken into custody, according to officials. It's unclear where the stabbing happened. The police officer was taken to Cooper University Hospital.

"While out of his vehicle for 58 seconds, speaking to an individual outside of the store, a second unknown male approached him from behind and brutally stabbed him in the neck," said Camden County Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez.
