Wisconsin’s Democratic-backed incumbent state schools leader advanced in Tuesday’s three-person primary, overcoming challenges from a union-backed superintendent and an advocate for private schools supported by Republicans.

In the primary race for state superintendent of schools, Democratic incumbent Jill Underly and GOP-backed education consultant Brittany Kinser advanced Tuesday and will face off in the general election April 1.

Wauwatosa education consultant Brittany Kinser, a moderate backed by conservatives, has signficantly outraised both of her Democratic opponents.

The Associated Press called the State Superintendent of Public Instruction primary election for Jill Underly and Brittany Kinser, the two candidates will be moving on to the Spring General Election on April 1.
