Josh McDaniels's adaptability and versatile scheme could transform Drake Maye and the Patriots' offense into one of the NFL's most dangerous.

The New England Patriots reportedly interviewed former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy before deciding on Josh McDaniels to take over the offensive play-calling, according to FOX Sports’ Jordan Schultz.

New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel is clearly a fan of the way Josh McDaniels sees the game. It's for that reason that he hired him to return for a third stint as offensive coordinator for the Patriots.

Once again, Josh McDaniels will fill the New England Patriots offensive coordinator position. As expected, the team is hiring McDaniels after speaking with him Tuesday, according to CBS Sports lead NFL insider Jonathan Jones. The Patriots made the move official on Wednesday.

Bill O’Brien, the former Patriots OC and current Boston College coach, had lofty praise for McDaniels during his regular appearance on WEEI this week. O’Brien shot down the criticism that McDaniels was hired because of nostalgia surrounding the glory days of Brady.

The Patriots interviewed Josh McDaniels on Tuesday. Not surprisingly, they are expected to hire McDaniels as their offensive coordinator, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports. McDaniels returns to a familiar job. He previously held that role from 2006-08 before becoming the Broncos’ head coach and from 2012-21 before taking over the Raiders.

New England has several young options for former No. 3 overall pick Drake Maye entering 2025, but none have the experience Diggs provides. Before suffering a torn ACL in Week 8, the 31-year-old was well on his way to securing a seventh-straight 1,000-yard campaign while totaling over 100 catches.

Bieniemy spent a decade with the Chiefs, starting as a running backs coach in 2013. He worked his way up the totem pole, becoming a top lieutenant for head coach Andy Reid in 2018. The 55-year-old won two Super Bowls in Kansas City and contributed to an offense that ranked first in yards and points per game in 2022.
