For years, the Mississippi River was a roadblock for travelers – either to be forded or boated across. But, on Jan. 23, 1855, the first bridge across the river opened.
All lanes are now open after a broken-down 18-wheeler caused heavy delays on I-10 West on the Mississippi River Bridge early Wednesday morning.
